The High Court (HC) on Wednesday issued a suo moto rule upon the government to explain in one week over the steps taken to protect the minority community in the wake of recent attacks on them.
An HC bench comprising Justice Kazi Rezaul Haq and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain issued the rule on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the statement, the deputy commissioners and police supers of Bogra, Pirojpur, Netrokona, Natore, Chandpur, Tangail and Jhalkhati have been asked to submit report within one week.
Home secretary, inspector general of police, director general of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the deputy commissioners and police supers of the concerned seven districts were asked to reply within two weeks.
The order was passed when Supreme Court Lawyer Parimal Chandra Guha submitted two newspapers to the court which published reports on attacks on minorities in seven districts.
It is mentionable that the minority community has come under attack across the country in last few days especially during the January 5 national election and pre and post poll violence.
In some remote districts including Jessore and Satkhira, the situation turned serious raising a grave concern among the peacefully coexistent communities in the countries.
